1. Why generic prompts produce generic drafts
When builders ask generative models to “write an announcement blog post about our new authentication feature,” the result is almost universally flat. It relies on well-worn SaaS clichés (“seamlessly scale,” “streamline workflows,” “unlock productivity”) without stating what was actually built, why it matters, or how a customer uses it.
The problem is not the model’s language capability. The problem is an absence of ground-truth product context. Without boundaries, the model samples the global average of software marketing copy. A product-context brief provides the constraints necessary to generate authentic, high-signal writing.
2. The four essential layers of a product brief
At Agentium Labs, we structure product-context briefs around four non-negotiable layers before drafting:
Specify the exact technology stack, database schemas, and capability limits. If your feature is NextAuth database sessions with Prisma on PostgreSQL, state that explicitly. Avoid abstract buzzwords.
Describe what the user was doing immediately before this feature existed. What was breaking? How many hours were lost? Ground the emotional tension in real workflow frustration.
State what the feature does not do. If your tool is a source-code foundation and not a hosted SaaS builder, make that distinction absolute. Negative constraints prevent hallucinatory claims.
Do not ask the reader to join a community, follow on Twitter, view pricing, and schedule a call all at once. Identify the single verification step: inspect the code, review the docs, or run the migration.
3. Concrete Brief Template
Here is the reproducible markdown brief template we use across our products and within Forge:
# Product-Context Brief: [Feature Name] ## 1. Feature Mechanics & Implemented Scope - Target Release: v1.2.0 - Implemented: Durable transactional outbox with Prisma & PostgreSQL - Not Supported in this release: Distributed Kafka streaming or multi-region replication ## 2. Target Audience & Current Friction - Audience: Senior full-stack TypeScript engineers building multi-tenant B2B apps - Friction: Webhook failures resulting in lost customer billing records during network blips ## 3. Core Narrative & Positioning - Tone: Technical, understated, direct. No hyperbole or exaggerated claims. - Key Proof Point: Authoritative business state and outbox events write in one single transaction. ## 4. Single Call to Action - Primary Destination: Inspect the verified PR diff in docs/recipes/outbox.md
4. Next Steps
Grounding your AI tools in real product briefs saves hours of manual editing and protects brand credibility. In upcoming releases of Agentium Forge, this context assembly is automated directly from your git commits and product specs.
